Non-Emergency School Safety Announcement

March 3, 2025

This message is being sent to the Chestnut Ridge community to inform you of an incident that occurred today. After completing a careful investigation, the district determined that young siblings brought three bullets to school.

This information came to the attention of a district employee when a responsible student reported that another child was in possession of a bullet. Upon receiving the report, the administration immediately conducted a thorough search and contacted our school police officer. At no time was there a threat to students or staff.

This situation can serve as a reminder to families about the importance of checking students’ belongings before coming to school. We understand that many appropriate family activities that are common in our rural community may involve items that are inappropriate for a school setting.

Items such as ammunition, weapons, pocketknives, etc., should never be brought to school. If your child accidentally brings such an item, please reinforce that the proper course of action is to immediately report it to an adult.

We want to commend our young people for speaking up when observing something that did not seem right, thus allowing our staff to execute established protocols for school safety.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe learning environment in our schools. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s building principal.

Sincerely,

Chestnut Ridge School District
